Dear readers, as you know, in our 16th issue, we discussed gum problems under the title “Causes, How They Occur, and Their Impact on Our Quality of Life”; we explained what biofilm—also called “bacterial plaque,” the root of gum diseases—is, how it forms, its possible consequences, its importance, and its effects on our overall health...
In this issue, we will focus on how to control the biofilm that initiates gum problems, or how to address existing issues using the GBT protocol (Guided Biofilm Therapy®). In dentistry, GBT refers to Guided Biofilm Therapy®, a system designed to achieve optimal oral hygiene and consists of an 8-step patient experience.
SO, WHY IS THIS EXPERIENCE NECESSARY?
This therapy was developed to achieve and maintain healthy oral and dental health, prevent gum diseases and related issues such as bad breath, and detect dental caries. It minimizes sensitivity, pain, and discomfort, offers a comfortable patient experience, and ensures maximum efficiency for healing. The protocol applied during the therapy enhances patient motivation and strengthens the doctor-patient relationship. “Good oral health means happy patients.” For us as dentists, maximizing what we can do for our patients provides a happy experience. This approach helps ease the tension often caused by dental fear and anxiety, turning the process into a more relaxed and comfortable treatment.
A notable point about the GBT protocol is that traditional treatments—like those I have also performed until now—often cause patients considerable discomfort, increased sensitivity, and pain during procedures. When gums are sensitive, bleeding, swollen, and sometimes painful, traditional interventions pose challenges for both the patient and the dentist. GBT minimizes, and often eliminates, these difficulties, providing a comfortable, efficient treatment with faster healing and better results.
